About including and excluding directories and files for NDMP backup selections

When you create a backup job, you can do the following:

  • Select specific directories to include in the backup job.

  • Select specific directories and files to exclude from the backup job.

Table: What you can include and exclude for NDMP backup selections

Type of NDMP backup selection

Include

Exclude

NetApp/IBM/Fujitsu

Single or multiple directories

Directories and files

EMC

Single directory

Directories and files (only if you select the “dump” backup type)

Other

Single or multiple directories, depending on the NDMP provider.

Directories and files

When you create a backup job, you can select the NDMP resources that you want to include from either the main resource selection area or from the Include/Exclude Selections dialog box.

The following limitations apply when you select NDMP resources from the main resource selection area instead of from the Include/Exclude Selections dialog box:

  • You can include entire volumes for any NDMP provider.

  • You can include subfolders for NetApp/IBM/Fujitus providers only.

  • You cannot exclude files or directories. You must use the Include/Exclude Selections dialog box to exclude NDMP resources from a backup job.

  • For providers other than NetApp/IBM/Fujitsu and EMC, Backup Exec uses the “Other” provider that was selected last on either the NDMP settings on the Backup Job Properties dialog box or the Include/Exclude Selections dialog box. If no previous selections exist on those dialog boxes, then Backup Exec uses the default NDMP settings from Tools > Options.
