Recovering a Lotus Domino server that uses circular logging

If circular logging is enabled and the transaction log is lost, the Domino database can only be recovered to the point of the last backup.

Table: The process to recover a Lotus Domino server that uses circular logging

Step

Description

Step 1

Restore or re-install the Lotus Domino server program directory (excluding the notes.ini, cert.id, and <server>.id files) to the same location as before the disaster occurred.

Step 2

Check that the log directory (logdir) is created and does not contain old files.

If the log directory was not created, recreate the directory to the same location as before the disaster occurred.

Do not start the Lotus Domino server after performing the previous steps.

Step 3

Restore the notes.ini, cert.id, and <server>.id files from the last full backup of the Lotus Domino server program directory to the same location as before the disaster occurred.

Step 4

To have Lotus Domino create the circular log file in the log directory when the server starts, set the following parameter in the notes.ini file:

  translog_path=logdir

Step 5

Use the Lotus Domino Agent to restore the databases to the Domino data directory.
